The city of Wuhan issued China’s first commercial license for three self-driving vehicle companies, according to the Wuhan government and state media.

Baidu, along with startups Haylion Technologies and DeepBlue Technology, was granted a license to conduct commercial operations with self-driving vehicles along a 28-kilometer demonstration zone that’s covered with 5G connectivity, according to reports.

Last week, Shanghai also issued a license for Chinese automaker SAIC, BMW and Didi to conduct robotaxi tests in one district of the city. But according to Xinhua and Shanghai regulations, the new Shanghai license doesn’t allow for commercial operation, so tests only involve volunteer passengers.
