Bilibili, once a scrappy little site for Chinese millenials to share and watch Japanese anime (mostly pirated), now has over 110 million monthly active users -- almost a third more than a year ago, according to its latest financial report.

The Nasdaq-listed company, which celebrated its 10th birthday in June, is known for requiring users to pass a 100-question exam to qualify as a full member. The test covers a range of geek culture topics spanning media, music, history and animation. Bilibili says at the end of the second quarter, 54 million users have made the cut -- up 40% from a year ago. They make up some of the site’s most loyal users.

The average Bilibili users now spend an average of 78 minutes a day on the site, watching some 2.4 million new videos uploaded monthly. Paying users still make up a small proportion, only about 6% of all users.
