It’s safe to say a lot of people aren’t convinced they need a VR headset yet. HTC is trying to change your mind by giving you more options with three new models of its Vive Cosmos series.
The Vive Cosmos Play, which has two fewer tracking cameras than the original Vive Cosmos, targets budget-conscious first-time users. Tracking might not be as good as the higher-end models, but HTC says anyone who wants to upgrade can swap in other faceplates. Pricing has yet to be announced.
The Vive Cosmos Elite, is designed for games that demand high precision such as Pistol Whip or Superhot VR. It comes with two controllers, but it can also pair up with controllers and SteamVR base stations from previous generations. It sells for about US$986 in Taiwan, on par with Valve’s Index headset but more than double the price of Facebook’s Oculus Quest.
The Vive Cosmos XR is for business customers who want to collaborate remotely in a mixed reality environment, meaning users can look at virtual objects while also seeing their physical surroundings.
