Chinese company 24 Entertainment teased a multiplayer melee action game called Naraka: Bladepoint at The Game Awards 2019.
The PC game is slated to be released sometime in 2020 on Steam. It’ll be published by Chinese gaming giant NetEase, which has been increasingly expanding its footprint in the West as it competes with its larger rival, Tencent.
In the Naraka teaser, garishly-dressed ninjas leap across rooftops, firing grappling hooks to catch up to enemies. The developer said the game will have an “Eastern aesthetic and philosophy” and be set on a “forsaken island of splendid landscapes.”
The developer also said that the game will have a boundless movement system and a combat system involving accessible block-and-parry mechanics. And players will be equipped with a grappling hook that they can aim at whatever they want.
NetEase has previously sought to expand in gaming by teaming up with foreign developers. The company is Blizzard’s partner in China and the two are working together on the upcoming mobile game Diablo Immortal. NetEase is also an important investor in Destiny developer Bungie.
