Many flagship smartphones already support wireless charging, but OnePlus has so far avoided offering the feature, saying that existing technology didn’t meet its Warp Charge standards. But the company now says it’s finally ready to roll out a wireless charger and a new smartphone that supports it.
In a forum post, OnePlus announced the Warp Charge 30 Wireless that it says can juice up a OnePlus 8 series phone from 1% to 50% in half an hour, which doesn’t sound bad for a phone using more power-hungry 5G connectivity. The phones are rumored to have batteries between 4,300mAh to 4,510mAh. CEO Pete Lau said on Weibo that it’s “nearly as quick as wired charging.” For anyone who wants to use a wireless charger they already own, OnePlus says the OnePlus 8 will also be compatible with all Qi wireless chargers at 5W.
The OnePlus 8 series is set to be unveiled on April 14.
