At a media event later in the day, OnePlus announced more details about the new 2K OLED screen. In addition to the enhanced refresh rate, it has a 240Hz touch sampling rate, which reflects how responsive the display is. Displays with a 120Hz refresh rate have already been seen on gaming phones like the Razer Phone and Asus ROG. The Redmi K30, which starts at just US$232, also uses a 120Hz screen.

For content with low frame rates, OnePlus said the new display will also use a technology called MEMC (motion estimation and motion compensation), which is commonly used on TVs to smooth motion blur.

It would seem natural for the 120Hz display to show up in the successor to the OnePlus 7 Pro, which was the company’s first to use a 90Hz display. However, Chinese tech media ifanr said OnePlus refused to comment when asked if the display will be used on the OnePlus 8 Pro.
